About

Hi there, my name is Katie Ference. I am a licensed therapist (LCMHC-A) in the state of North Carolina. Outside of my profession, I am a cat mom (see them below), florist, mini golf enthusiast, dancer, PhD candidate, wife, and chronic gamer. And now, the founder of The Autonomy Project!

The Autonomy Project is one of my biggest dreams. I want to create an educational mental health space where people can learn and not be afraid to ask questions. I am very lucky to already do that with my clients day to day, but I want to expand that through this project. My clincial approach is based on the belief that mental health care thrives on these two things; understanding of oneself and their patterns, and the skills to cope and grow.

Throughout the ups and downs of my life, three things have remained true- knowledge is power. Having a greater understanding of myself is power. And obtaining these two things take a lot of work.

I wanted to create a space to facilitate this process for people. It is not meant to replace therapy or one's on self reflection, but it is meant to provide knowledge, different perspectives, and skills. I have a background studying and a large interest in high demand relationships, religions, and organizations. I have been in my own high demand relationships as well. I have found that autonomy and agency are skills that very few bring to the forefront. So it was time to open up the conversation.

I decided The Autonomy Project was the perfect place to do this. It could be a place where there are articles, worksheets, and interviews that offer a different perspective and skills to, well, build autonomy.

At the end of the day, I want people to know they have a choice and that they are capable of making that choice. I want to help provide information so that they can make informed choices, whatever that choice may be. If this work even helps one person, I will thrilled. So all that said, thank you for visiting The Autonomy Project. I hope you find what you're looking for.
